Cross Referencing

I have another question about cross referencing - just
cannot get it to work right in my document.

I added paragraph numbering and then inserted several
cross references into a long document. Now when I add
new paragraphs, the cross references do not update
correctly. I've tried Ctrl+A and F9 and that didn't
work, and I also tried the print option and printed the
page and the references did not print properly. Also, I
inserted several new paragraphs in one spot, and when I
tried the CtrlA/F9 trick, the cross reference in one spot
updated to "0" but none of the other cross references
seemed to update. What am I doing wrong.

Actually I think I've figured out my own answer to this
after a few more attempts. Thanks!
