1: Can I setup "Office 2000 Pro" on a network hd and use it on any
computer connected to it, or do i have to purchase several copies?
a: im trying to make the default saves all the same on the
computers so i can find any file

2: Do I have to buy the Server eddition if available, or do i have to be
using a server program like NT server 4?

I'm pretty sure that installing on an external HD would NOT work.
Even if you did manage to somehow get all the registry keys in there
properly, you would still be in violation of a license agreement.

and anyway, why are you still running office 2000? You should upgrade for
the spam filters on outlook, nothing else.
Same for NT4. NT4 is like ~10 years old, and i believe it's no longer
supported by microsoft. it's time to upgrade.

upgrade at this time is costly and im not rich, i was given the programs
complete with licenses, but i just want a folder to save to, and want there
to be no way to change it by others, so all saved doc's are in one place

thx, but im looking for a way to make the saved folder the only folder to
save to, im not trying to do things illeagally, but, how would i get
terminal server configuration and the licenses to do it the right way?

No, you cannot legally install Office (any version) from a single client
license on a shared network drive and then run it from multiple clients
connected to the share. This would be a Terminal Server configuration and
would require a volume license agreement.

OK I don't think you're looking for a Terminal Server environment. I would
need to know more about your network there, like how many client machines,
and what exactly are you trying to do? I'm not sure what you mean by "making
the saved folder the only folder to save to" - but perhaps you just want to
designate one shared folder on a central machine or file server to be the
default folder location for all the Office clients to save to, in lieu of the
local Documents folder?

i have 3 compters and want to set share folder to 1 drive so i can see all
documents in that one place, i use win xp pro as network controller ( ie
just simpley the computers connecting) i want to make 1 place to save to
from all computers and dont want anyone to be able to change the folder, so
if i call the folder "word saves" nobody can save any office document
anywhere else even if opppened from a floppy drive, please explain in
detail how i should do this, as i have files all over the computers and no
way to backup or save files from many locations

Designating the default save location is a simple process, simply see the
options in the individual office Component's - Though it could doubtless be
done via a registry change -
However in order to prevent users saving elsewhere, you would have to
impliment various win user permissions, and you dont, I believe, mention the
o/s involved

I am using MS Office 2000 on all 3 computers, the o/s is Microsoft windows
XP PRO, can you describe exactly what i have to do IE, make all default to
z:\files\*.*
then set user deffinitions to not allow change, edit what
registry key or keys?

thank you, as this is very helpfull to me to know how to do, but i need
exact information so i dont have to reinstall everything again on all
computers therefor starting from scratch again
