Cross versions permissions problem?

The situation is this: there are two XP machines in a workgroup. The database
(Access 2000) is on Peter's machine. Andrea has the other machine on which
Access 2003 is installed. When she tries to open the database on Peter's
machine she gets a message saying "either it is opened exclusively by another
user, or you do not have permission to open it." It is definately not opened
exclusively by another user and is definately shared over the workgroup. I
have checked the user and group permissions in the Access 2000 database and
can't see why Andrea can't get in. Any thought anyone? Could it be a problem
with crossed versions of Access?

ITYM there are two PCs joined to the same workgoup (on a server?). This is
considered by many to be a bad thing. A better solution IMO is to have all
machines joined to the default workgroup and to join custom workgroups on a
session-by-session basis using a desktop shortcut. That way the user is not
promped to log on to "unsecured" databases.

I wouldn't have thought so. Have you tried splitting your database and have
Front End files on the local machine with links to the tables on the remote
one?

Sit at Andrea's machine and try to create, open, modify, save, close
and delete a text file in the same folder where the mdb is installed.
Can you do that? You have to get that working before the mdb
will work.
