Crosstab report using start and finish date

I would like to develop a report which shows a diary of the use of
equipment. The equipment is used across a number of days. Each piece of
equipment has a start date and end date of usage.

eg
equip. start date end date
A Jan 1 Jan 4
B Jan 2 Jan 2
C Jan 1 Jan 3
D Jan 3 Jan 4



The report would look like this:

Jan1 Jan2 Jan3 Jan4 Jan5...
A x x x x
B x
C x x x
D x x

or better still the report would have bars to show the usuage.
Not sure if graphs could be used as there are other fields associated with
each peice of equipment which needs to be displayed.

Any help greatly appreciated.
