Someone told me that there is a way to create crossword
puzzles and word searches in microsoft office. Does
anyone know how to do this or if it is even possible?

You just need a grid. So you could do that easily in Excel or with a Word or
Powerpoint table.

There's nothing built-in. You could write your own or see what's available
by googling on "crossword software". There seems to be an abundance of
packages.
