Hello,

I checked my site which was created in MS Publisher 2003 with CSE HTML Validator LIte v3.5 and it discovered that one of the most common mistakes in sites HTML is - Validator explanaition follows:

<<<"This line contains part of a quoted string that spans more than one line (not recommended) or a quoted string (like an attribute value) that is missing the beginning or closing quotation mark. You should check this line for improperly quoted attribute values that may be missing an opening or closing quotation mark. As currently configured, HTML Validator requires that all quoted strings be contained on one line and have beginning and end quotes. Note that because of inconsistent handling by user agents, it is not recommended that attribute values contain line breaks.">>>

Could you please explain me in non professional language what does it means? And, how it can be fixed? These mistakes take an effect in search engine rankings and I would like to eliminate them.

Please help,

Julius

It means what it says, either -

"quoted string spans
more than one line
in this case it
is 4 lines"

or

"missing closing quote here

Publisher is coding the way it's designers want it to which is largely
proprietary. You cannot change it. If you want to be able to validate code
and modify it to the validators specs than you need you be using an html
editor tool and educate yourself in some html and scripting.

Nothing in my years of experience in building sites and running sites nor
anything I've ever read or studied, indicates any relationship between SE
ranking and non validated code.
