CSV File Format Invalid in Excel?

E

I recently imported a spreadsheet from a website (Survey Monkey) and
it opened in Excel as a .csv file. I saved it and was able to open it
later. I spent many hours recoding the data by hand in the
spreadsheet and resaved it under a new name, but still as a .csv
file. But when I try to open the edited file I get the message "SYLK:
file format is not valid." The original imported file still opens
just fine. I tried changing the edited file extension to .xls and I
get the same message when trying to open. Apple support said it has
to do with Microsoft and they have no answers. If anyone can help I
would be very grateful!
