Cube dimension "resource list' rebuild fails

Our resource information has not been updating in any of the Resource Center
views. Also, when we execute a cube rebuild, the screen in Manage
Enterprise... only shows the cube update was initiated. It never reports
that it completed.

So, the DBA and I looked at the database and forced a full rebuild of the
three cubes. No change.

Then, we did a reprocess of all the dimensions. This is when we got the
error on the dimension "Resorce list". The exact error is:

Processing dimension "resource list" failed. No changes have been made to
the database. Data source error: Cannot save object inside Decision Support
Objects (DSO) transaction.

No resources added on 3/17 or after are showing up in our resource center
views. We don't know of anything that happened to cause this but something
obviously did.

All of the other dimension reprocesses work fine so I don't think it's a
permissions issue.

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks,

Walter

All started on 3/17 eh? Someone pour some green beer into the server?<g> Can
you open the resource pool and checkout all resources and successfully save
them back to the server? Do any of your resource names contain special
characters?

I haven't found any green residue in the box yet!

I have opened the entire resource pool and saved it successfully but with no
change.

One resource has a hyphenated last name "Brewton-Turnbough". Are hyphens
not allowed? This resource was added several days before the 17th so I
think several cube build happened automatically after it was added.

Regarding the building of the cube, you could always delete the cubes and
dimensions and see if rebuilding them works. An alternative to resolving
the error without blowing away the cubes may be as follows:
- open analysis server and edit the Resource List dimension
- select the advanced tab of properties for the main level
- modify something harmless such as the description field
- save the dimension and try processing it

I took the dash out of the person's name and it didn't make a difference. We
also had dashes in some of the RBS nodes but only one of them had been used.
The dashes have all been removed now.

The DBA reprocessed the "Resource List" dimension and it did not fail this
time. He then reprocessed all dimensions and cubes.

In the Resource Center, the resources that were missing are still missing.

The RBS value for the one resource that was assigned to the RBS node that
had the dash in it, no longer shows the dash in it. The resource that had a
dash in it's name ( a different resource than the one assigned to the RBS
with the dash in it) still shows a dash in her name in Resource Center but
not in the ERP. If I go to View resource assignments in PWA, when I select
the resource that used to have a dash, she no longer has the dash in the
selection list. This just seems to point to me that the data in the
resource center views is not getting updated.

Just for kicks, I opened the ERP in Pro and changed the RBS for all the
resources that are not appearing plus the one that I removed the dash from.
After the cube was rebuilt, nothing chnaged in Resource Center.

Also, whenever I do an update now from the PWA Admin role on the cube and it
just reports that he rebuild was initiated. It never gives a success
message even when I refresh the page.

Finally, our DBA has done some research on Analysis Services and has
installed SP3 for Analysis Services this morning. We must wait until tonight
to restart the machine though.

FIXED! We installed Analysis Services SP3 and restarted the server. One
or both of these steps fixed the problem. The cube shows rebuilt on the
Manage Enterprise... page and the data in the Resource Center is complete now!

Thanks for all the ideas and help! I learned a lot through this!
