curious formatting

My partner is a researcher and, as such copies and pastes information from
the web into word.

1) Sometimes on pasting into Word the spaces between words are very long
(more like using long tabs). Presumably this is a formatting thing.
Please can anyone advise how to resolve this issue.

2) In connection with the above today there was a small icon below an
address and curiously this somehow opened up as the sole item (large size)
in a Word document. How and why could this have happened please.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Instead of using Paste, try Paste Special and select unformatted text.
