Currency Format

Could someone explain me the meaning of Currency Format.

What is the usage of Scientific and percent there?

Also I habe 4 fileds set to Currency. Two of them somehow got set to
?# ##0.00;-?# ##0.00
And this setting is not available in the others

How did they come from?

I have a feeling that it might have to do with the fact that I fill in the
database on two computers with different regional settings, and then simply
copy the database from one copmputer to another.

Your feeling is spot on.

Although Access may display "Currency" in the Format property of a field or
control, that's not what it actually stores. It stores the actual currency
format of the machine where you developed the database. If you then move the
database to a computer with different Regional Settings, the lie is
discovered, and you see a physical representation of the developer's format
in place of the word "Currency".

This flaw exists with all recent versions, but is not well documented. I'm
in the process of addressing such flaws in a new section at

The scientific format has to do with representing numbers as a mantissa and
exponent (power of 10).

The percent format represents numbers as percentages (hundredths).

You can specific custom formats that are not available in the list.
