Current date appears (post merge) when the data source 'date' field is empty

Wayne Augh

Using Word 2002 and Excel 2002.

Word is populating the current date (into the Word
document) when the corresponding date field (merge field)
from the data source is blank. Why is this happening and
how I can I correct?

I've tried using various switches and If..Then statements
but apparently I'm missing something.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi Wayne,

Could you please press Alt+F9, then copy what you see
between the { braces } for this particular field and paste
it into your reply?

Basically, I'm guessing it contains { Date } instead of {
Mergefield Date }. And a Date field will always display the
current date, and never the contents of a merge field...
