Current views and mail folders

Using Outlook 2003...

My mail folders have a default view of fields, etc in the view called
"Messages". All my mail folders use this view.

I want to add another field to this view. I expect that all my mail
folders would then automatically use this modified view.

That hasn't worked. I opened one folder, clicked on "Customize
Current View", made my change, hit ok, and saw that my change was
applied to the current folder. But when I opened another folder (that
indicates it is ALSO using this SAME "Messages" view), it shows the
previous view, ie without my change.

I'm missing something, right?

This is an unwarranted expectation, if you don't change the default Messages
view itself.

Each folder, once viewed, can have folder-specific changes made to its view.
This is the "Current View" change that you made. Instead, use View>Arrange
By>Current View>Define Views. Select the Messages view and click Modify.
Make your change there. Any folder still using the default Messages view
should change, then. If you've made any changes to that view in the other
folders, those folders won't change because they're no longer using the
default view.
