Curser blink rate controlling letter display reproduction on scree

I have recently purchased Word 2007.
The curser blink rate (annoyingly) is determining the speed that the letters
are reproduced on the screen.
I have a new Sony Vaio laptop and am using McAfee.
It's making it impossible to use Word 2007.
Any ideas on what's causing this?

That is probably a red herring. More likely is the graphics or the printer
drivers need updating.
