curser changes from a an arrow to a plus sign

I am a longtime user of 123,visacalc, and now excel. I have a proble
that is driving me nuts and I can't seem to figure out how to solve it
I must have hit a keyboard sequence that changed my curser in exce
from an arrow to a plus sign. The function of the plus sign behave
verry differently from the arrow. How did I change it and how to
toggle it off to get the arrow back again? Thanks..

Hi,
The cursor is an open cross when within the workspace and an arrow when in
toolbar space.
What does not work for you? What version of Excel?
