Curser jumps around - happens in both Word and Outlook

When using my new HP laptop with Vista, the curser jumps around all over the
document whenever I am typing in either Word or Outlook - this happens
whether I type quickly or slowly although it seems worse the faster I type.
It's completely annoying ... HELP!!

Thanks--

Either you are brushing the touchpad while you are typing or the
keyboard is deflecting and causing touchpad input.

This is causes by the touch pad. As Bob noted you might be brushing it. Try
adjusting the sensitivity and see if that helps. On my old laptop the cursor
would jump due to the vibration of the keyboard and changed to the
sensitivity proved fruitless. The only way to prevent it was to use an
external mouse and disable the touch pad if an external mouse was in use.
That's also why it's my old laptop. ;-) You may need to take that route if
lowering the sensitivity doesn't work.
