Curser "jumps" to last paragraph marker when you backspace.

When I type a heading, center that heading and "enter", I am then centered on
the following line. However, when I then hit the backspace key -- expecting
my curser to move to the left margin, it jumps up to the paragraph marker
position in the line previously typed. How can I get it to move properly?
It used to work fine, but something has changed, and it doesn't work now.

The proper solution is to use styles. Type your heading, apply Heading
format (or did you mean a Title?). When you press enter, the following
paragraph will be the Default Paragraph Style (or whatever style the Title
is set to follow on with).

The quick solution is to not backspace but assign Normal Style to the
centred paragraph.
