Cursor Disappears in Outlook 2003

My daughter has a HP Laptop running Windows XP Home SP2 (with automatic
updates turned on and all critical patches applied). She has been using
Office 2003 Students and Teachers edition without issues for approximately 9
months (I have also made sure that all appropriate Office patches are
applied). However, she was not using Outlook for email and was just using
webmail from our ISP.

Yesterday, I configured Outlook 2003 to point to the ISP's mail servers.
However, when she went to use Outlook, we found that the cursor disappeared
as soon as it moved onto the Outlook window. It reappeared as soon as it
moved off the Outlook window. If she maximized Outlook, the cursor
disappeared until she moved the cursor to over the taskbar. FWIW the cursor
displays properly in all other applications that are open at the same time
(e.g. Word 2003 and IE). All of the other functions in Outlook 2003 appear
to work correctly. By using the alt and menu keys, I was able to receive her
email. In playing with Outlook it seemed that some screens could sense the
mouse's presence (e.g. by highlighting a radio box) but others seemed unaware.

I don't know if the following is relevant, but she is using the Bronze
cursor set and I have Norton Internet Security 2005 (with Norton Antivirus)
installed as the personal firewall for this machine. NIS was installed
shortly after the machine was purchased and has not impacted any other
application to my knowledge.

Any and all suggestions would be helpful.
