Cursor disappears in table

I have a Word 2007 document. It consists of a 4 column table whose text font
size is 6. If I click anywhere in the table I see the curser appear there as
expected. If I double click on a word, it gets highlighted as expected.
However, if I change the layout to 2 columns, none of the above actions
happen. I click anywhere in the table and I can’t see the cursor. If I
double click on a word, nothing happens.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this.

Does this only happen when you go from 4 columns to 2 columns or does it
also happen if you go from 4 columns to 3 columns or single column?

It is suggesting a corrupt DataKey, but would you test other combinations
and see if it is the same for any document and not just the one you are
working on. Thanks.

I didn’t describe the problem well. The table stays the same but the columns
on the page change. The table is made up of 4 columns and is long enough to
go 4 pages. To save paper I switched the document to be 2 columns on the
page (like a magazine). Does that help any?

I think I understand now. You have a 4-column table that stretches over
several pages. All works correctly when the page setup is standard
single-column page. But when you select 2-columns (initially to save paper),
you can no longer see the cursor when it is inside the table.

This suggests to me some conflict in the way the table is set up. I am
guessing that you have the cells set to 'centre vertically' or to
'right-align' or the table itself has 'fixed column width' which isn't
properly changing when you change page setup.

Think a little more about this; does your printer not have a 2-UP (or x-UP)
option where it will print 2 pages per sheet? Most modern inkjets and lasers
have this option in the printer setup somewhere.

II know about the printer option. I print on different printer depending on
my location and some of them have the option and some don’t. Also, I wanted
to control the space between the 2 columns as well as the font size. If I go
below font size of 6 it becomes unreadable to me.

I have the same problem as you are. Wondered if you have the solution?

The cursor disappered when
1. Set table displayed in 2 or more columns
2. The "Repeat as header row at the top of each page" is selected.

It seems like a Word 2007 bug to me. when I deselect the "Repeat as header
row at the top of each page", the cursor reappeared.

In the instance, the first few columns of the table had a mysterious
corruption. It was resolved by using the Convert Table to Text option
followed by Convert Text to table.

One point I missed in my previous email.

The missing cursor problem only happens on the first page of the table when
I set my table to multiple columns. The cursor reappear on first row of
second page and downward.

Although the cursor is disappear, I can still use the mouse to do the
selection (the selected part will not turn grey) and do cut, past, copy etc.
It feels like I am working wiht an invisible mouse.

The problem happens on all the tables that I set on multiple columns. I can
send you one of my files for your reference if you give me your email address.

We are just investigation a possible bug when a long continuous multi-row
table is used in a two-column page setup with Repeat Headers turned on.

I ran into the exact same problem today as c3000ca. I have a 4-page
long table consisting of 3 columns per page. I can see my cursor on
all of the pages except for the first page--though I can still seem to
edit all of the information. I also, as stated above, have enabled
the "repeat header" function. Any fix would be greatly appreciated.

At the moment, all I can confirm is that it looks like a bug and there's a
pack of Word developers trying to find the cause of a workaround. It does
seem to be the combination of using newspaper columns with the repeat Header
Row function though.

I had the same problem, and after finding this thread realized I could edit
the table by pulling it out of the columned document and pasting it into a
blank document. However, I put back in the original document, I couldn't do
it so that the "track changes" would stay with it. It just accepted all the
changes automatically.

As long as you cancel the "Repeat as header row at the top of each page"
during your editing, all the track change will be kept. After the editing,
simply turn off the Track change and select "Repeat as header row at the top
of each page" again.

Will this easier for you?

The bug seems to be that the cursor is missing. However, if you use the
mouse to move around that first page, you can still edit the contents.

The bug is with Word 2007 in either XP or Vista and where a table is placed
into 2 columns with Repeat Header Row set. Rather than copy/paste to another
document, you can temporarily turn of the Repeat Header Row for editing.

We're having this same problem. Is there still no permanent solution to this,
other then disable repeat header and enable it again?

That's about it at the moment. It has been 'bugged' with MS, but it is a low
priority and my guess is that it may not be fixed until the next release.
