Cursor disregards top margin on open

Bob

This just started happening in my Word 2002.
When I open a new Word document, it opens in Print Layout
view, as it should, but although the top margin is set at
1 inch, the cursor appears at the very top of the page.
When I go to Print Preview and when I print, however, the
text appears in the right place - 1 inch down.
When I check the Page Setup, the top margin shows at 1
inch.

Can you help fix this annoyance?

Thanks, Bob Adler

Hi, Bob,

Put the cursor on the thin gray area between the top of the page and
the bottom of the ruler. The cursor will change to a pair of small
white boxes with vertical arrows in them, and the tooltip will say
Show White Space. Click once, and the normal appearance will return
(you may have to use the scrollbar arrow to show it). Clicking at that
place again will hide the space.

Alternatively, go to Tools > Options > View and clear the option
"White space between pages".

What is an annoyance to you is useful to others -- it lets you see one
or two more lines of text when the space is hidden.
