Cursor gets stuck at beginning of line

Last post for the moment (these have been accumulating in
a "Word gripes" file). Again, this is not something I have
encountered before Office XP/Word 2002:

The cursor often gets stuck at the beginning of a line and
will not respond to attempts to move it with the right
arrow key. It *does* respond to moving right a word at a
time with CTRL-rt arrow; but that isn't always what I want
to do, since I often then have to move backward to where I
was trying to locate the cursor. Why does this occur?

Again, thanks to anyone who can help with this. That's my
last gripe for now. :)
