Cursor Issue

Maurice

Presently engaged in the Microsoft Online Lesson at:
http://office.microsoft.com/training/training.aspx?AssetID=RC010779041033&pid=CR061832711033

Was able to create the columns 'Type' and 'Resource Names' respectively.
The issue develops when instructions call for clicking on the 'Type Field'
for the fixed duration task. The cursor is now a three-dimensional pluse
sign (+) not the 'hand' pointer that preceded it.

- What does the (+) cursor mean as opposed to the 'hand' cursor?
- How can one change the hand cursor back to the hand so that I might
proceed with the lesson?

Much thanks for guidance on this issue

Much thanks for your timely reply. Regrettably, the ESC key does nothing in
this instance and canceling out would preclude the lesson. Any continued
guidance still appreciated.

I presume you have a Project book nearby? What does it say?

Hello Maurice,

You'll see the mouse pointer change into several different shapes in
MS Project, each indicating different selections.
The 3D plus you see is indicating your mouse is over an area of a
view where you can enter data or select from a drop down list. For
example, if you place your mouse over the data in the Duration
field, your mouse will show this shape.
If you click on a field where you can enter data, your mouse will
turn into the shape of an "I beam" looking like the capital letter
i.
If you place your mouse at the top of a column in the column
heading, your mouse pointer will appear as a black arrow pointing
down.
If you place your mouse over a row number, your mouse pointer will
appear as a black arrow pointing to the right.
If you click on a row number or click on a column heading, your
mouse pointer will appear as a four headed arrow.
The "hand" you noted is usually an indication that your mouse is
over a hyperlink field. If you hover (don't click) over a column
heading, you will see a screen tip (yellow box) which gives a
hyperlink for "Help on [fieldname]" in blue text. If you place
your mouse on the blue text, you'll see the hand symbol.

If you have followed the directions you cite below and added the
type field to the Task Usage view, you should see a drop-down arrow
to the right side of the Type field. Click on the field with the 3D
plus, then click the drop-down arrow and select the different task
type.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
