I can't move my cursor from one table to the other. What am I doing wrong?
Also I can't drag and drop a picture with everything going crazy.

Sorry to be to elimentary!

Need more information:

Are the tables in the same page? Different pages? Next to each other? One
below the other?
A link to the page will help, or at least post the HTML markup here.

Drag and drop a picture from where to where? And what does "crazy" really
mean in your case?

The layout is a blank page, then a layout table from a FP template. There's
a header bar, then 3 columns, then a narrow page spanning tab at the bottom.
The tables are on the same page. If I can get it to work, I'm going to
overwrite the original index page, which is "acting" the same way.

Some history might help: I started with an empty website, found I couldn't
produce the kind of formatting I'd used in Publisher, so saved some of my
Publisher graphics as pictures, and copied them into this FP site. I can't
drag and drop from one column to the other successfully. Pictures go off to
the side of other picture instead of below. I can't access the far left
column.

I'm sending you the link. I'm trying to place a new picture right under the
box that says "coming soon" but can't get my cursor into that column.

file:///C:/Users/Charlotte/Documents/My Web Sites/Comcast Website/New index
try.htm

Can I send this as an attachment? I don't understand now you can see it.

Thank you.

In general, when designing a web page forget anything and everything you
learned in Publisher. Web pages are completely different.

file:///C:/Users/Charlotte/Documents/My Web Sites/Comcast Website/New index
try.htm is located on YOUR computer - I don't have access to your computer,
so cannot see the page.

When you place the first image in a column, click on the image, then tap the
right arrow on the keyboard followed by the Enter key. The next image can
now be dragged below the first.

We cannot help with the first column without seeing the page.

Didn't work, or maybe I'm just not understanding. Can I get this to you by
overwriting my index page--since I'm not happy with it anyway--then posting
it to my remote website and sending you the link?

I want to replace my old website. http://charlottehinger.com

I see I'm eligible for a upgrade from FP to Expressions. Does EX offer more
in the way of formatting?

Thanks Pat. Especially for telling me about Expressions 2. I have no desire
to be a web techie. I've moved and want to change host services to Comcast.
I'm a novelist and want to take down my old website (historical novels) and
launch a new mystery website.

Here's my old link: http://www.charlottehinger.com

Here's my (tentative) new site http://home.comcast.net/~charlottehinger

Please remember, the original issue was that I couldn't move my cursor from
column to column. That's still the main issue. I had started a great site
in Publisher. That's crazy easy to get the all the formatting right, but
there are hosting issues. Sharepoint works like charm with Comcast.

OK, first question is do you want the search engines to index the site and
find the information you are going to be presenting to hopefully those who
buy and read your book? If so then you have GOT to present some content for
the search engines to read. Everything on the page you are showing me is an
image. There is NO content.

I'm really not sure what you are trying to do. Where do you want the images
placed? I see tables within tables and lots of non breaking spaces -
      in long strings.

I see a table within a table at the top which is the masthead and is text
for your name. I then see a number of block quotes and paragraph tags with
lots of non breaking spaces and your images.

The next table I see is below all of your images and has no content at all
in it. Not sure how or where you are trying to drag and drop the images. I
would imagine that is your problem with trying to move the cursor and trying
to drag and drop the images.

File names for both pages and images should not have spaces and are going to
cause you some problems later. so instead of file name.html or file name.png
you should be using file-name.html or file-name.jpg.

Pat, I realize there's no content. That's the problem. Remember this was
posted for you to look at and it's not a "real" website yet. I can't get any
content on the page because I can't get my cursor to "stick". However, I
wasn't aware of much of you were talking about, nor do I know what it means.

The root problem here goes beyond the cursor. i simply don't know what I'm
doing. Period. I'm going to either have to take a course, or hire someone to
do this for me. I'm reluctant to hire, because I've heard of too many
serious nightmares, especially for writers. For instance, not giving an
author administrative permission, so he/she can update her own website, then
doing a poor (or non-existent) job. I have an Step-by-Step book that I used
some time back. I used it to learn enough to update my previous site without
a bit of problem.

Thanks for your patience. Right now, all the search engines are still
indexing my old site. I'll let you know how this all turns out.

Your current site has four pages indexed in Google
site:www.charlottehinger.com. What I see when I look at your Home Page is
the footer going through the middle of your image covering your mouth. The
left hand side of your content is cut off. Not sure how much I cannot see.

It's hard to design a website if you don't know how to use the program. Same
as it would be hard for me to write a novel. It seems you have two choices:
1. Learn how to use the web editor well enough to design a site you want
that displays the same or close to the same in all browsers and the various
resolutions OR
2. Pay someone to design a site for you. Remember, if you intend to maintain
and update the site yourself, you will still need to learn how to use the
program.

Playing around with what you already have on the current Home Page.

Remeber Publisher is a program that applies to materials in print. While you
can design and save a webste that is not what the program is for and will
not do a good job of it. I will not even address your nightmares of a
webdesigner as I have never met that type of web designer.

Pat, thank you and farewell. I've decided the really, really sensible thing
to do is to hire someone who knows what they are doing. The reason the site
you found is messed up is because I screwed around with it too much the last
week. I have chapters due at my academic publishers, and I've got in gear
with the mystery side.

You've been great! For a utra-scary look at invasion of privacy the
internet, etc., read Jeffery Deaver's The Broken Window.

Best,

Charlotte
