You are probably brushing against the touchpad with a finger or palm. This
is the most common cause of erratic cursor in laptops. Fixes normally
involve:
If you use another mouse with the laptop, turn off the touchpad by going to
the driver and disabling it. Some drivers have the setting to automatically
turn off the touchpad when another mouse is plugged in.
If you don't use another mouse with the laptop, decrease the sensitivity.
It can be accomplished from the Control Panel, Mouse application. You will
have to search around for sensitivity and set it higher.
