Cursor of Death!

M

Mike Bodner

Hello,

I have Word '98 for Mac. I found out how to get a long dash using
hotkeys, but alas, if I hit the wrong dash (i.e., if I hit the one NOT
on the separate number pad) I get a big, bold, black cursor of death
(it looks like a big black em dash). When I use that accursed cursor
on any pull-down munu option, that option then disappears for
eternity. Now I have to use hot keys if I want a footnote or if I
want to quit, because the evil cursor appears to have banished them.
I realize that I'm better off using hot keys anyway, but I'd still
like the option of having the options on my pull-down menu. Does
anyone know how to reinstate the options?

Hi Mike:

See the Word Help topic " Reset original settings for buttons, menus,
commands, and toolbars"

It's a bit of a trap, isn't it :)

Cheers

And after that, why not get AutoCorrect to automatically change (say) two
hyphens into an en dash (this may be a default behaviour -- I've forgotten)
and a hyphen followed by an equal sign (i.e., the key to the right of it)
into an em dash?
