cursor skips to next line when space tab is hit

Am using Word in the Home and Student 2007 version.

I am trying to fill in a form and when I complete the first name of a person
and hit the space bar to leave a space the cursor automatically goes to the
next line. Therefore, I can not complete the full name of the person on the
same line. What am I doing or what did I do to cause to happen and how do I
remedy the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
