cursor wanders

When I am tying on MS Word, sometimes, without warning, the cursor shifts to
the end of a previous typed line.

1. Why does this happen and what shd i do to solve this ?
2. Is it a hardware or a software-related issue?

If this is a laptop, the problem is often related to the touchpad, either
brushing it inadvertently or even just the typing on the keyboard creating
vibrations that register. If you're using an external mouse, deactivating
the touchpad may help.
