cursor

Can anyone tell me what it means when the Word text insertion cursor
gets a "plus" sign to the immediate left? Why is it doing that? How do
I make it go away? Using Office X on Panther but this has come up a
lot of times. Nothing in the manual, online help or other literature
I've found.

I believe that the "I-beam plus +" cursor means that you're
in the midst of a "format painter" operation (see "help" for
details if you're not familiar with the format painter).

I further believe that there's a bug in Word whereby it forgets
to turn that cursor off (back to the plain "I-beam" cursor) at
least some of the time. I say that because my wife asked me this
*EXACT SAME QUESTION* just the other day while she was using
Word v.X . We finally restored the normal cursor by deliberately
invoking the format painter; this time, when it finished, the
cursor switched back to normal.

I don't know if any of the updates to Office v.X clear that bug.
