Custom animation in PPTX

I've been away from PPT for a while and last used a pc version. I want to
create the ability to have a random animation - where the click on a text
box or button near the box reveals the text inside. I want the user to be
able to selet any box in any order. The normal animation schemes seem to
restricdt me to a specific order and the action buttons don't initially
appear to have an easy link. Any suggestions on how to do this?

Hi,

You don't mention what version of PowerPoint you are using, so I'm
assuming the latest one (PowerPoint 2004).

Your question seems to be about two things: How to give an object a
random animation, and how to reveal text within the object on demand.

To add a random effect to a text box (or any other object):
1. Control-click (right-click if you have a multi-button mouse) on the
object. For some objects you need to click on the shadowy frame that
surrounds the object.
2. From the pop-up menu choose Custom Animation
3. Click the Add Effect button
4. In the Entrance effects section the first subheading is Basic. Click
on Random Effect.
5. Click OK

There are lots of ways to reveal text. Some of them could be quite
complicated using visual basic or applespcript.

But to keep things simple, why not simply copy the text box and paste
the copy into the presentation? Make one copy with text, the other one
make without text. Put the one with text behind the one without the
text. Give the one without the text an exit effect and the one with the
text will remain. There are other variants of this basic scheme you can
use by controlling the animation effects and their order, and use action
buttons to set things into motion at the desired times.

OK,

This is the way I would do this. There might be a better way, but it does
the trick.

Lets say that you are creating a slide with the title "Learn French : click
on Rouge"
You create 3 rectangles, one pink, one red the other one green
To each rectangle's right you create a specific text block (ie: each text
block is independent from the other)
Text1 :try again
Text2: bravo
Text 3 : Are you daltonist ?

Now before you start seting up the animation, this is THE magical trick:

First duplicate individually each rectangle and put them 100% above the
previous one
Now select a rectangle by click on it and shift click to add the text on its
right. (You should NOT select the area with your arrow. The trick is to keep
the underneath rectangle NOT selected)
Once done, group the to things together

To the same for rectangle 2 - text 2 and rectangle 3 - text 3

NOW you can add custom animation to have the group appear on click

Because the underneath rectangles are not part of any group, you will see
them all when displaying the slide. So people will know where to click !

Oopps

Sorry, it does'nt do exactly what you wanted! :(

I would need to think more about it.

In your request, do you need to keep the text display or can it go away?
