Custom Assignment Fields

We currently are using Enterprise 2003. We have used a custom enterprise
text fields to determine the G/L account for associated work. However, in
our strict accounting sense, G/L is a function of both the nature of the task
and the nature of the assigned resource. In other words, G/L is an attribute
of an assignment.

How can we create a custom ASSIGNMENT calculation in 2003? Some of my
reading implies that this can be accomplished through VBA script.

I get how this can be done for task assignments, at least that's what I infer
your talking about by defining them in the templates. How, if possible, would
we approach this if we wanted to have custom assignment fields for timesheet
items that don't exist as project tasks? Most of our time effort is
non-project related and we want to move away from creating projects for
these. We also need to categorize timesheet entries further than the single
field of billing category allows. Any hints?

Bill:

I don't think there's a "good way" to control this. The system wasn't
designed to fully support this. Using a combination of templates and VBA
code will probably allow you to build a solution. To get deeper into the
hows would require more knowlege of the business challenge.
