custom autofilter dropdown

I am currently in charge of typing up the schedule at work and i was wanting
to make a sub finder

dates across the top, names going down, schedule positions marking if
they're workin (ie. a1,a2,b1,b2 etc)

basically what i want to do is use a auto filter to be able to look thru a
list of peoples names to find if they're scheduled(by looking for the blank)

my main problem is that i've got to make this for people who more likely
then not won't know how to use an advanced filter or anythin

so here's my ?

is it possible to have a fully custom list of filters for use with an auto
filter?

if you have problems with my poor way with words and want a visual then let
me kno and i'll send you a copy of what i've got...

Dear Anubis:

Since I need to see what it is that you're talking about, can you please
email me your excel sheet to my email address and I'll take a look at
it. I currently have XL2003 install.
