Custom Autonumber with Prefix and Category Grouping

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to create an autonumber that numbe
categories based on data in another column. This number will also nee
to have a prefix (25).

I have a list of requirements that are grouped by Process/Activit
(column C). In column A I need an Identifier that will look like this:

25.[Process #].[autonumber]

I attached screen shots of what my sheet looks like and the type o
numbering I would like to achieve.

I have another sheet that contains all the process/activity labels.
was thinking I could assign a number to each process and use a lookup t
return the number in the identifier that is associated with eac
process, but I am not sure how to get the prefix or the autonumber.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks

e.g. write in H1:Hn the Process and in I1:In the number for this
process.
Then you can try in A4:
="25."&VLOOKUP(C4,$H$1:$I$10,2,0)&"."&COUNTIF($C$4:C4,C4)&"."
and copy down.

you don't need the dot at the end.
Try:
="25."&VLOOKUP(C4,$H$1:$I$10,2,0)&"."&COUNTIF($C$4:C4,C4)
