Custom colors for highlighting

I think Word should allow users to select from more than 15 colors to
highlight text with. Custom colors for highlighting would be perfect.

Until Microsoft complies with this eminently reasonable request, you can use
character styles to "highlight" text. Define a character style as, say,
Default Paragraph Font + Pattern: Clear (Yellow). That is, apply shading to
the text through the Format | Borders and Shading dialog or using the
Shading Color tool on the Tables and Borders toolbar, then save this as a
character style.
