Custom Dictionary in Word

I'm running Office 2007. When I try to add a word (my name) to my custom
dictionary I am not able to. I right click on the word, and would normally
select the option, but the option to do so is grey'd out.

Any help in this matter would be great.

Word Options > Proofing > Custom doctionaries. Check that you have a custom
dictionary available for the language you are using.

I have asked the user of the computer to check that, but said that it shows
correctly. The user states that it matches mine, which is working correctly.
I am not able to check the computer in question until Thurs.

Thank you for your idea. I will check this again when I have access to the
computer.

Ok ... here is a strange twist to this. I've re-installed Office 2007, with
all add-ins and tested - same results. I then did the critical updates
(service pack 2) - same results. I log in as a different user, and I am able
to add words to the dictionary, but still not able to w/ the user in
question. If he goes "Word Options", "Proofing", "Custom Dictionaries", we
can add words this way, but not be right clicking the word in the actual
document.

Any other suggestions?? Thank you for your assistance.

Re-installation rarely achieves anything useful as it doesn't affect the
user files that are undoubtedly at the root of the problem.
See if renaming the Word data key in the registry (with Word closed) sorts
it out.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data
rename to (say)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\OldData

Found a solution ... It was actually fairly simple. Why is it we don't look
for the easy answers first?? LOL

Went in and created a new custom dictionary, and set it as default. I then
went and typed a word that is wanted in the dictionary, and *presto* is
allowed us to add it to dictionary. Some reason, it was the orig custom
dictionary that was causing us the troubles.
