Custom Dictionary no longer available

I can no longer do a Spelling Check in Word 2008. An error message appears
stating "Custom Dictionary" is not available.

The problem did not occur right after installing Snow Leopard. Just
recently. I have tried HELP thinking I can put in another Dictionary, but
that did not work either.

After enjoying well over a decade of relying on automatic spell checking,
this is most disconcerting not to have a Custom Dictionary.

Hope someone has a good solution.

Hi,

Please try this:

Go to Word Preferences
Click the Spelling and Grammar button
Click the Dictionaries button
Make sure Custom Dictionary has a checkmark in the box
click OK
click OK

This worked for me...
- Using TextEdit, create a new file.
- - Go to Format > Make Plain Text
- Save as "NewCustomDictionary.txt" or whatever.
- - Use: Plain Text Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)
- - Save in folder: YourUserName > Library > Preferences > Microslop > Office 2008
- Launch MS Word
- -Go to Word > Preferences > Spelling and Grammar
- - Check the box "Check spelling as you type"
- - Click the button "Dictionaries"
- - Choose the txt file you just created
- - Language > (none)
- - Click OK

You should be able to spell check and add words to your dictionary now.

I copy / pasted words from the original Custom Dictionary to my new Custom Dictionary.

Hope this helps.
