Custom Doc Merge field to show first name in Contact Name

Hello,
If its possible how to extract the first name 'Fred" in a contact name "Fred
Jones" in Custom DocProperties for a merge in the characterformat part?.
{DOCPROPERTIES "ContactName" \* characterformat}.
Thanks in advance.

No!

You will need to modify the data file to separate first and last names.
