Custom Document Properties - problem with date format

Hello

I'm using Word 2003.
I want to define a custom document property eg MyDate of type date. Each
time I enter a value I get a dialog response “The value entered does not
match the specified type. The value will be stored as text.â€
What format should I be using – does it depend on System Settings such as
Location (I’m in Australia).

Often it's today's date - but while testing I've tried the following (to
avoid d/m/y and m/d/y issues):
7/8/9
7/08/09
7/08/2009
07/08/2009, and
#07/08/2009#

Hmmm. I tried all the formats and all were accepted as date except the last?
Check the short date format in Windows regional settings and ensure that you
enter in that format. e.g. here the short date format is 07/08/2009. If I
enter the custom date as 07.08.2009 I get the error.
Does it matter for your particular requirement that the date is a text
format?

Hello Graham

Your reply enabled me to fix the problem, rather than solve it.

My Short Date Format was set to "ddd d.MMM.yyyy" eg Tue 29.Sep.2009.
Unfortunately Word wouldn't accept Tue 29.Sep.2009 or Tue 29.SEP.2009.
But, then I changed the Short Date Format to d.MMM.yy. And as you said it
will then accept 7.8.9, 7.Sep.09 and so on. So thank-you very much for
enabling me to fix the problem.

I like setting the Short Date Format to "ddd d.MMM.yyyy" so in Windows
Explorer I can see the day (eg Tue) against the file's attributes; but this
format seems to confuse Word.
