Custom drop down menu items no longer work

Word menu question

Some time ago -- over a year, maybe two years -- I added two dropdown lists
to my Word 2003 main menu. I populated them with macros I had developed over
several years. I did all this in my normal.dot template.

About a month ago those two menus grayed out. I save a copy of normal.dot
once a month, so I copied and renamed the one I had saved for June (or maybe
it was May) and that worked OK for a day -- and then all of a sudden they
were gone again.

Last week I tried rebuilding those two menus and they worked for a session,
but then they went away. I used the Customize feature to create the dropdown
and populate it with my macros.

Perhaps related to this is another problem I am having with my menu.
PDFCreate! insists on added an item to my menu bar -- I have tried deleting
in, and it goes away for that Word session -- but then is there again the
next time I load Word.
I have check the startup folder, and also for add-ins, but both are empty.

How can I get rid of the PDFCreat! Item, and get my custom menus to work
again?

Athough the symptom in the title of the article at

("Word prompts me to save changes to the Normal.dot template") doesn't
match your problem, it does give a comprehensive procedure for
locating and removing troublesome add-ins. Happy hunting!
