custom error bars are linked

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When adding custom error bars, some, but not all, of my error bars are linked the adjacent point. If I only enter the negative value and not the positive value, it becomes apparent this is only happening in one direction. I have been using custom error bars in two previous releases of excel and have never experienced this problem. I have updated excel to version 12.2.4 (100208) ESD. I do not manually enter my error values, but select cells in my worksheet that contain the values. I do not think I am entering the data wrong, as it still works correctly in the positive direction (which are the same cells I select for the negative direction).
