Custom Field Data Disappears After Task Approved

2007 version - In the My Assignments view - we have a project plan published
to the server with several columns of custom field data.

Task Status - the user indicates Submitted from a lookup
Month Number - lookup of numbers 1 -6
Category Name - text field

When the user selects Sumbitted on a given task and the checks to submit for
approval - the Category Name field data disappears after the Project Manager
has approved the task. The same happens if data in the Month field is
changed - when the task is approved - the data in the Category Name field
disappears.

Has anyone seen this with Custom fields in PWA? I tried changing the
Category Name field to a lookup and the same thing happens.

I have seen this as well and I think that this capability is simply very
flaky. I don't think it will be possible for you to implement successfully
in the current state of this application.
