Custom Field Formulas - Length of Expression

New user to Project 2000. I attempted to create a
formula for a custom field. I am fearing that there is a
limit to the length (in characters) of the expression. I
am using a switch statement that is quite long and I keep
getting a syntax error. I shortened the length of the
statement and the syntax error disappeared. The length
Proj 2000 seems to be happy with is about 500 characters.

Do this sound familiar?
