Custom field population

This is a full post after my inept version yesterday. I am using
projectserver 2007 and have created a custom enterprise field ( a date) and
have added it to the my tasks and assignment pages. In my test as a team
member I enter a date, save, recalculate and submit and the field value shows
as entered. I then sign in as administrator and accept the task updates but
the custom field does not show a value in thr project centre or the published
plan. On a second test I viewed the preview as part of the task update and
the field did not have a value although when I clicked on the actual task in
the preview pane the popup box showing the update details did show the date
value. This is my first attempt at a custom field and I am probably classed
as a beginner in using project.(ie dont assume that I am beyond something
stupid)
Hope you can help

Tony,
The data is there, but is is recorded at the Assignment level, and you are
looking at the Task level. If you expose the custom field in (I think) the
Resource Usage view in Project, you will see the data.

Next, you will undoubtely wish to roll up the data to the Task level. That
is not so easy, and usually calls for a macro or a stored procedure on the
server. When you get into that, you will have to consider rules for rolling
up the data. What to do, for example, if two resources assigned to the same
task both enter data into the custom field.

Best regards,

Hi Thanks for your reply and apologies for delay in responding.

I have tried to add a column in the resource usage view to show the field
but my custom date field is not in the available list of fields.

Tony:

You created and Enterprise Task Field as a date? Under the "Calculation for
Assignment Rows" section in the field definition page, you must select "Roll
down, unless manually specified" in order for the fields to show up in the
project detail views.
