custom field

I have created a custom date field and added it to thr my tasks and my
assignment pages. i then enter actual work via my assignment page and put a
value in the new date field.I save and submmit etc, then log in as
adminstrato and accept the updates. The value in the new field is displayed
correctly but at administrator level the field is blank.Have been over this
again and again but cannot find any settings which might solve it for me so
any suggestions would be most welcome
