Custom Fields: Allow additional items to be entered into the field

I need to create a Task Custom Field (Text type). I give it a name, then
click on Value List. Well, on the Data entry options section, "Allow
additional items to be entered into the field" is grayed out and I really
need it for this Custom Field.

Help please!

Enterprise custom fields do not allow users to append a value list with
their own values. Sorry.

Interesting...

Well, this is what we are trying to accomplish:

We want the users to be able to add a task from PWA and somehow, we will
need them to enter a value to a field for that task. We will be generating
Company level reports that show information based on those code values.

For example:

TopLevelTask
Subtask1
'New taskA a subtask of Subtask1' '1234'
'New taskB a subtask of Subtask1' '1589'
Subtask2
'New taskA a subtask of Subtask2' '1235'
Subtask3
'New taskA a subtask of Subtask3' '1589'

Thanks!

Why don't you ask the team member to enter this information in the Comments
field when they create the new task? Or why don't you use a custom
enterprise Task text field without a value list, and ask them to type the
information the manager needs to know? Just a couple of ideas. Hope this
helps.

Thanks for your response Dale. We went ahead and tried creating a custom
enterprise Task text field without a value list. We also added that field to
the Published Fields (Tools - Customize - Published Fields...).
Unfortunately, we couldn't get it to display this new field on PWA for the
team members to type the information.

Your Project Server administrator must add the new field to the Timesheet
view in PWA. Hope this helps.

A word of caution: Your scheme will work as long as there aren't two people
assigned to the task trying to set the value. As Enterprise fields do not
carry discreet values at the assignment level, the last person to set the
value wins.
