Custom fields and Master Schedules

I have created a custom field that calculates correctly in each subproject.
However, when that field is used in the Master Schedule it returns an error.
Are there modifications that can be done to allow custom field to display a
properly for a subproject included in a Master Project schedule?

use the organizer and move the field from the subproject into the global
file or the master project file.
If you post the formula here it may be possible to more easily debug it.
