Custom fields in file properties

Hi,

I would like to use the custom field facilities to identify features of a
project and have those showing in a report. Unfortunately I cannot see how
to access the data. I have looked at the raw database through access and
there does not seem to be any fields that reflect the custom fields from the
properties of the file, in the same way that custom fields for the project
are found in the various task tables.

Is there a way of accessing these fields?

Hi,

Your question being very open "Is there way" I can fullheartedly answer
Yes.
Using Project's objects (f.i. in VBA) on an open project they can be found
in
CustomDocumentProperties

But in the database structure, I wouln't know.

Thanks for your reply. You confirmed in my mind the ability to access that
information is availabe through VBA in project but possibly not through
access.

My particular use is ideally through access as I have a very specific report
which we have only been able to develop using access and VBA in access, and
was hoping to use one of the custom fileds to identify the specific site for
the plan and have that site name on the report. I can do it by using one of
the standard fields in properties such as category or company.

Thanks again for your help.

David,

The data in custom fields is available in the table for the view. For
example a custom Task text field is available in the Tasks table, TaskTextXX
where XX is the number of the custom field.

Hope this helps

Hi John,

From the previous correspondence I think David talsks about the Custom File

Hi John,

Have seen Jan's reply as well and yes he is correct the custom fields I am
hoping to use are those found under File Properties, rather than the tasks
custom fields.

I find the task custom fields extremely handy and use them extensively to
filter, but would like to see if I can access the file properties custom
fields to identify the specific site location for the relevant client. The
client can readily be identified in 'Company', or subject but site location
does not fit any of the standard fields hence the reason for looking at the
custom fields. If they are not accesible from access then I will simply need
to use 'Category' to hold the site location, it is simply that using that is
not as intuitive as a field called 'Site'.

Thanks though for your input, I always appreciate any input.

Hi David,

Just a thought.
I sometimes use the text fields of the Project Summary Task instead of
custom properties.
Would that help?
