custom fields/many projects - how to analyze who has used what quickly

Roger

Hi,
Is there a quick way to analyze project schedule files to determine
who has used custom fields, and what they have been used for rather
than opening each schedule, then having to examine each custom field -
writing down comments about its use etc?

This obviously creates issues with a Master template that rolls up
many projects over many Prjct Mngrs.

There isn't a quick way (unless you are using project server which does
control use of Enterprise fields somewhat). Your only approach is to set a
standard that each project that uses a custom field must name the field
(Tools, Customize, Fields) and that someone holds a data dictionary for all
fields so Text1 is reserved for specific data whatever the project.

Rod thanks for that.
You have confirmed my fears.
Lack of collective discipline using MS project amongst a group of
Project Managers can eventually create a big problem when it comes to
Programme or Portfolio consolidation and reporting.
