Custom Filters

I am looking to create a Gantt chart the shows the
beginning amount of slack in the tasks of a project and
what the remaining slack is via a status date.

As an example:

the Plan was baselined in Sept. I have a Task status date
of Feb. '04 that has to be met. I would like to create a
filter that shows what the original slack was and as tasks
begin to slip, what remains of the slack (if any) by the
status date.

Has anyone ever created a filter to display this type of
information in a Gantt chart?

Any help would be great!!!!!!

You wouldn't create a filter for this. You would create a barstyle.

But first you have to have the data available to make the comparison. The
standard baseline does not contain information about total slack.
So if you did not save it when you started you will have to re-create it.
You can do this by going back to the original schedule, exporting the task
late finish dates (export task unique ID and task late finish) and then
importing them into your current schedule (use Task unique ID as the merge
key and one of the available date fields in Project. In this example we can
use Date1)

Then create a bar which indicates the original slack.
To do this go to format menu/barstyles
insert a row.
define the way you want it to look.
set the start of the bar to baseline finish
set the end of the bar to date1

If you want a bar that shows the remaining slack (vs. baseline)
create another barstyle which starts from finish and finishes at date1

A third step is to create a bar for tasks that have gone over.
Do the same as above but have it start from Date1 and finish at finish.

The last bar will only be visible if finish is later than the original late
finish.
