Custom Format

I need a custom format for latitude/longitude. Currently I have it as ## ##.##

If possible, I would like the degrees symbol (superscript little circle) to
be displayed after the first two ##.

Next question: I need to be able to pull the format apart to calculate the
great circle distance. I need to be able to pull the degrees (first ##) and
the minutes (##.##). How can I do this?

Thanks,
Les

I appreciate the link. However, I still cannot get it to work. I have
formatted the cell for lat & long to [hh]:mm:ss and then entered the formula
to convert to degrees (latitude *24), which is formatted as number with 3
decimal places. I get a #VALUE error in the cell with (Latitude *24). I
cannot figure out what is wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Les

What do you get from the formula =latitude?
As what cell has your name "latitude" been defined?
What does that cell show when you format it as [hh]:mm:ss, and what does it
show if you temporarily reformat to General? What do you see in the formula
bar when your "latitude" cell is selected? [It sounds as if you've got text
in there.] What do you get from =ISTEXT(latitude)? What from
=ISNUMBER(latitude)?

Chip Pearson has extensive notes on Latitude and longitude here:

Hope this helps.
