Custom Graphical Indicators

I was looking to insert some custom graphics as indicators in Project
Server. Basically I need to add an orange colored indicator to the
other red, yellow, and green colored indicators. I don't seem to be
able to find an easy way to do this.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!

You are right. There is no default method in Project Server to add other
indicators to the default list of graphical indicators. Therefore, why
don't you simply pick another color or another symbol, and then make sure
your project stakeholders understand the meaning of each symbol? Just a
thought. Hope this helps.

Well, picking a different color certainly makes sense to me and makes
sense to other people involved. However, the person in charge and that
wants the particular view in place seems to think that orange is really
the best color and is pretty set on that. Sort of a logical step
between yellow and red in their mind.

Can you edit those indicators in the DB or something? I assume Project
must store them somewhere.

A long time ago, someone in this newsgroup stated that you can edit a
particular .dll file and add custom indicators. I do not remember the name
of the .dll file and no one since has ever mentioned this solution. If
anyone remembers the name of that .dll file, I would invite them to share
their knowlege with you.

Otherwise, I would recommend you convince the boss to select another color.
Just because the boss wants orange doesn't mean that he/she can make Project
Server do something it is not capable of doing! :)

Hope this helps.

Hi All,

I came across this post from August 2005. I have not tried it so cannot
vouch for its effectiveness or safety:

Copied post:
------------------------------------------
I've hacked the dll holding the images - PRJRES.DLL - try it using
reshack
http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker - remember to keep an original copy
of
the file!
Look for bitmap id:s 736 and up - you'll probably have to change the
masks
as well (800+ -something) - trial-and-error will show what pairs go
together.

Thanks loads for the reference. Although I trust everything Lars writes in
the newsgroups, I would follow his recommendation to back up the .dll file
before making changes to it. :)

You're very welcome Dale. I'm with you on the backup as well! In my
book, if you are not paranoid about these things, you are just not
thinking clearly enough ;-)
