Outlook would not open - I have seen solution 822503 as being the solution.
This shown below
So I have done this and got setup.exe TRANSFORMS="C:\Documents and
Settings\NAME\My Documents\New Custom 1Setup File.MST" /qb-

BUT how do I run this? Thanks - losing cred here and desperate !!!


I quote the solutions" When you start Outlook 2003, you may receive the
following error message:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set
folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your
administrator if this condition persists.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if you deploy Outlook 2003 with the Microsoft Office
2003 Custom Installation Wizard and specify a personal folder (.pst) file in
the Windows Installer transform (MST file) by using the Default location for
PST files path option. The problem occurs because you specify a file name
instead of a folder path.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue for future installations of Office, use the Custom
Installation Wizard to edit the MST file. To do this, follow these steps: 1.
On the Change Office User Settings page (page 10 of 24), expand Microsoft
Outlook 2003, expand Miscellaneous, and then click PST Settings.
2. In the right pane, double-click Default location for PST files, and then
type the path that you want in the Default location for PST files box. For
example, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\.
3. Click OK, and then follow the steps to complete the wizard. When you have
corrected the MST file, deploy Office by using the correct MST file.
To resolve this issue for an existing installation of Outlook that is
experiencing this problem, specify the .pst file by using the Mail icon in
Control Panel.

The solution given is for an administrator to apply in an enterprise-wide installation, not for an individual user. Which are you? If you're an individual user, ignore Steps 1 and 2 and go straight to the last sentence in Step 3.

Thank you VERY much for your reply

Yes I made an error and did not go to step 3. I did actually create a new
..pst file. Then went to MAIL in control panel and made outlook ask for a
choice on how to open - pointing it to a new PST file. It opens. BUT I have
lost all mail in MAY and June. There is no PST file in the PC with this date.
I cannot understand where it has gone - so I have lost all mail for this
period. I had archived files end of April.

Also the contacts file seems to be differnt and filed in MAPI format -
Clearly I screwed up something in the wizard - being a single user I was
crazt to try but so desperate to get it working - I dont know how or why it
has lost mail from may and recent updated contacts. Any comments most
welcome. I clearly must stop using Outlook as a filing cabinet- the files are
too big and I find it hard to back up in a format lilke pst that is not
compatible with other apps. Best regards - Peter

I would suggest that you search your entire computer and use Outlook to open all the .pst files you find. You might be surprised. Also, start a new topic thread in the microsoft.public.outlook.contacts group with details about the contacts symptoms.
